about

“Scared to Move” is about a woman (the granddaughter) comforting a new love who is weary of physical intimacy, drawing on her own painful experience in order to build trust and make a meaningful connection, and in the process demonstrating the same emotionally mature attitude towards romance and relationships suggested in “Wreck Cut Loose.” It’s a song from a woman’s perspective that stands in stark contrast to the glut of male-driven songs about guys trying to coax women into sleeping with them.

lyrics

Are you lonesome tonight?
We can turn down those lights
I know you’re scared to love
Feels like you’ve lost before

We can drive this all night
We can run those red lights
I know you’re scared to move
Feels like your hands are tied

We all come from different places, oh
You and I are facing changes, oh
Closing hands and crossing over, oh
There’s no returning back from where we go, oh

In a strange new half-light
I will be your guide
I know you’re scared to move
We’ll find our way in time

We all come from different places, oh
You and I will face these changes, oh
Closing hands and crossing over, oh
There’s no returning back from where we go, oh
